2nd Line

(Matt Finders) Full score and parts for Large Jazz Ensemble. Instrumentation is AATTB saxophone section, 8 brass, and Guitar, Piano, Bass, and Drum Set rhythm section.

Medium-length solos for alto and tenor saxophone. Shorter solo for drums. Highest note in Lead Trumpet= concert A5 (A above the staff).
Medium difficulty. Suitable for most high school bands.

A fun, traditional street-beat combines forces with funky rhythmic motifs and results in a sassy, high energy chart for your band. You can really feature a groovin’ rhythm section and blazing sax soloists on this one.

Aardvark Soup

Easy/Medium-Easy difficulty. Suitable for an advanced middle school band or most high school bands.

A straight-ahead cha-cha groover, Aardvark Soup gives each section of the band a moment in the spotlight. The open solo section is available for anyone in the group, and unison horn figures along with written piano chords and bass lines make this a simple, yet energetic tune.

Big Red

Open, elongated blues form solo section for Alto or Tenor saxophone.

Medium-Easy difficulty. Suitable for advanced middle school band or most high school bands. Great for any ensemble with a swinging sax section.

Big Red is a medium-up swinger that features the saxophone section on unison melodies and that keeps brass ranges in a lower range. A great, bluesy feature for your swingin’ saxes, and should be easy to put together for most ensembles.

Blooz

Open blues in Bb with chord changes for solos in any chair. Drum set trades with ensemble at the end of the chart.
Highest note in Lead Trumpet= concert Eb5 (Eb at the top of the staff).
Easy to Medium-Easy difficulty. Suitable for advanced middle school band or most high school bands.

Charleston rhythms, bluesy repetition and stop-time sections make Blooz a great workshop tune on the blues and swing feel. Great for learning to improvise and listen across the band to other sections and players.

The Dork

The Dork is a syncopated, Santana-esque minor pentatonic rock tune that will get your band playing with rhythmic integrity! A fun groover for the rhythm section, your band will have a blast playing this one.

Dream

Solo feature for piano in a Count Basie style. Written solo and chord changes included. Highest note in Lead Trumpet= concert F5 (F at the top of the staff)
Easy difficulty. Suitable for Middle School and High School bands.

Dream is a piano feature arranged in the style of the Count Basie band. Subtle horn figures compliment the solo piano fills on this short swinger. Unison melody lines and relaxed swing figures makes this tune accessible to any ensemble with a good piano soloist.

Finderwimens

(Matt Finders / arr. Jessika Smith) Full Score and parts for Large Jazz Ensemble. Instrumentation is AATTB saxophone section, 8 brass, Guitar, Piano, Bass, and Drum Set rhythm section.

Solos are written for alto and tenor saxophone, and separate solo changes are included for trumpet and trombone as well.
Highest note in Lead Trumpet= concert Bb6 (written C above the staff), with an optional concert Db7 on the last chord.

Medium/Difficult for typical HS ensembles, mostly because of the open solo section. Ensemble parts are not too difficult.

Finderwimens is a medium jazz-waltz with a lilting melody and seamless, romantic chord motion. Written piano chords and written bass lines make this chart easier for High School level ensembles.

G.I.

Medium-Easy Difficulty. Suitable for a strong Middle School band, or most High School bands.

G.I. is a medium swing solo feature for trombone. Each section of the band gets an opportunity to shine in this chart, and written chords and bass lines and written trombone solo make this accessible for younger ensembles. A fair bit of fancy fingerwork in the saxophone soli will keep your saxes on their toes on this tune.

Last Blues

Medium/Difficult; for more advanced High School ensembles.

Last Blues is a medium-up swinger with syncopated jabs from the horns and complex eighth note lines in saxes, making for a great, energetic closer for your set.

Milton Says

Medium/Difficult; for high school bands with a strong trombone section. Ensemble parts are otherwise medium difficulty.

Milton Says is a bossa style feature for the trombone section. A relaxed feel with syncopated figures in the melody and soaring pads in the saxophones creates a sophisticated canvas on which to feature your trombones.

Road Song

Easy-Easy/Medium difficulty. Suitable for strong middle school bands and most high school bands.

The classic Wes Montgomery tune Road Song is re-imagined in this rock-based chart. Syncopated grooves in the bass and distorted guitar keep this tune fresh while the horn lines and backgrounds are simple enough for younger ensembles.

Spliff

This salsa tune features montuno piano riffs and classic Latin-jazz rhythms and textures. The open solo section with chord changes in all parts sets the stage for a fiesta that will get your band and the audience dancing!

Sticks and Stones

Medium difficulty. Suitable for most high school bands with a good guitar soloist.

This Titus Turner tune channels the vibes of Ray Charles and John Scofield with a rock groove and grungy, bluesy guitar melodies. Tricky eighth note soli lines will keep your band on their toes while your guitarist shreds.

This groovy Latin-rock tune is both cool and full of energy. Accented rhythmic figures throughout, slow builds in energy, and the opportunity to add auxiliary Latin percussion make this chart a toe-tapper and a fun set closer.
